What I’ve Been Up To All Week

Hey Guys & Girls, Long Time No Blog! πŸ˜› In case you’re wondering what I’ve been up to all week.. I’m going to fill you in! Let’s see…

On Sunday evening, I acquired a baby bunny rabbit (kind of a long story in itself.. Rabbits have been nesting near my building, and recently some little fuckers decided to shoot at them with a paint ball gun, killing the mother. πŸ™ One of my neighbors “saved” one of the baby bunnies by placing it in a cardboard box and bringing it to my door. They meant well, but I didn’t think it was a very good idea. I’m not exactly clear on why they chose to bring it to ME, but I bet it has something to do with the fact that everyone in my building knows I’m crazy about my cat, so they assumed I was an animal person. Which I am.)

Anyway, here I was with this baby bunny in a box and no idea what to do with him, so I got on the phone and started calling animal shelters, pet stores, and even wildlife assistance for information. I made it very clear that I had no intentions of “taming” this bunny to keep as a pet, and just wanted to know what his best chances for survival were and what I should do. They all told me the same thing.. with the mother gone, he had basically zero chances of survival if I released him right away. They suggested feeding him kitten replacement milk and grass, but they also said that they would be surprised if he survived til the end of the week πŸ™ I ended up buying a cage and taking care of him, and he really seemed to be doing well! He was eating (a LOT.. I had to wake up a few times each night to feed him), hopping around, and just acted very comfortable with the whole situation. This
surprised me because I figured he would either have difficulty with the kitten milk or be in a state of shock about being in a cage. (For the record, I just want to state that I was feeling pretty conflicted about the entire situation, I’m a firm believer that wild animals should remain in the wild.. I even boycott the zoo!) But he seemed to be doing just fine.

Although I was trying really hard not to grow attached, it was impossible not to love the lil guy. After I caught myself calling him “Cadbury”, I knew it would be really hard for me to let go & release him back into the wild. Unfortunately, it never came to that.. I returned from the store on Wednesday to find that he had passed away during the 45 minutes I’d been gone πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ I was so sad, even though I guess that’s a bit silly since I knew his chances of survival were very low, but I couldn’t help it. At first, it was hard for me not to blame myself & wonder if I might’ve done something wrong, but I realize now that I did everything I could to help him. I’m sure going to miss him… Rest in Peace, Cadbury!

And then there’s the weekend… on Friday, it was Karilyn’s birthday, but she had told me earlier in the week that she didn’t feel like doing anything special this year. One thing worth mentioning about Karilyn is that she’s a “fly-by-the-seat-of-her-pants” type of girl, so I wasn’t too surprised when she called me at about 10pm on Friday to invite me to a “Birthday CampOut” in her yard, lol πŸ˜› However, I *was* a little surprised when I showed up an hour later to find Karilyn and her friends trying to set up their tents… in the DARK… after they had all been drinking…. yeah, real smart! πŸ˜›

Needless to say, the tents never got set up and people ended up sleeping in her house instead…

But it was a fun time, she lives out in the country so it didn’t matter how loud we were, and we all went swimming & hot-tubbing, and then had a bonfire. I wish I had some candids to show everyone, but my camera died soon after I got there. (I *REALLY* need to remember to charge it before I go out!) Anyway, a bunch of random people (“friends of friends”, etc) were coming & going all night, and somewhere along the line, somebody robbed her blind. She didn’t realize it until the next morning, but about $2400 worth of stuff had been stolen. On her BIRTHDAY. I swear, I don’t know what’s wrong with some people. She filed a report with the police, so I guess we’ll have to wait and see if anything else develops from that…

In other (happier) news, I started bartending again! 8) My first shift was last night, and I’m loving it! I just need to get used to standing for 8-10 hours again, lol, so my feet are killing me today! I’m only going to be working a few nights a week though, because I want to make sure I give myself plenty of time to dedicate to my top priority.. AndiLand! πŸ˜‰ For the time being, though, my hands are tied. I’ve finished everything that I need to do, and now I am just not-so-patiently waiting for other people to come through on their end. (Stuff I can’t do myself, like programming, setting up software, bug testing, and waiting for billing verification to be approved, etc.) That’s another reason I haven’t been around too much lately, I have been trying to take my mind off the fact that I’m stuck playing the waiting game for the moment.. patience is a virtue that I seem to be lacking πŸ˜›

BUT IT WILL BE LAUNCHING SOOOOON!! πŸ˜€

I think I’m going to pamper myself and soak my feet in hot water while I relax for awhile… after all, Sunday is supposed to be the “day of rest”! πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜›

XoXo Andi

Sounds like an eventful week Andi. Sad about Cadbury, but the thing that got my blood boiling was the fact that some people killed the mother with a paintball gun..I don’t believe in lex talionis (an eye for an eye), but those guys should have their nuts cut off!! That pisses me off to no end how some people will treat defenseless animals like that. My area had something similar recently where they found a pup that had a gunshot wound to the neck and survived, but needed to be put down since it was suffering…how long it was since the wound occured is anybody’s guess….

OK, I’m alright now!! Happy to hear you had a good weekend except for your friend’s loss of stuff on her b-day…that’s probably why I dislike having people over since I had been ripped off a few years ago as well, but not on my b-day..that’s just mean!!

Anyways, glad to hear you’re doing alright…I was starting to worry!!

Yeah, stupid punk-ass kids…I hate the fact that acts of animal cruelty are generally classified as a “misdemeanor”, I definitely think penalties should be more harsh… people who injure/kill/torture animals are clearly messed in the head and should be removed from society..

Aww, thats just soo sad. πŸ™ Im really sorry for you. And I can totaly understand why you wernt in mood to tweet or blog the last days. Do you maybe have a pic of that little guy? Would really like to see it, and I think Im not the only one.
    Anyway, RIP Cadbury! πŸ™

So, the happier news: Im just so happy for you that youve finally found a new job! Hope its a nice place and youll be very well paid! πŸ˜‰

Yeah, I do have a couple pics, but I’m still not really in the mood to post them.

Aww I’m sorry that your furry friend Cadburry passed away. πŸ™ Good thing you didn’t have him for too long and got too attached. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a baby bunny. Was it really weak and had a hard time moving, like a kitten?
Wow that’s really shitty for your friend Karilyn :S I hate that ppl are so stupid as well. But it seems something crazy always happens when the parties get really big….
It’s a good thing the party wasn’t in the woods somewhere b/c otherwise there might have been a lot of ppl sleeping under the stars or in their cars haha…
Aw I feel sorry for your poor feet! Ha there’s no way I could ever wear heels for 8 effing hours!! :/ Owww… I get sore after 20 minutes of standing in heels ha! Can bartenders wear flats?? They aren’t very good for feet either but at least they wouldn’t hurt as much lol πŸ˜› You might want to invest in Epsom Salts…they are good to put in a tub/foot-tub for achy muscles…. 1 cup for a full bath…..so maybe a quarter cup for a foot bath??

    [Reply]

    Andi replied:

No, he wasn’t weak at all! He was active and seemed healthy, which is why I thought he was going to be fine.. :\

I *was* wearing flats! I think I would’ve actually been better off wearing heels, lol. My flats have such a thin sole on the bottom that the bones of my feet really hurt, not so much the muscles. But I’ll try the Epsom salts, good idea! πŸ™‚

    [Reply]

    Mon7que replied:

Hm I don’t want to argue but I’m pretty sure bones don’t hurt πŸ˜‰ unless you have periostitis …
There’s a bunch of muscles on the bottom of your feet. Haha you are making me review my anatomy…I actually have my textbook out in front of me right now …I can’t remember if the sole is the middle part of the bottom of the foot or the heel… damn… we don’t use laymen’s terms that much anymore so I’m forgetting! :S
Let me know if the epsom salts helped! πŸ˜›
Hm I wonder if rabbits depend on being cuddled and the warmth of their mothers for the first little while after birth? That’s too bad…it woulda been cool if he coulda got bigger and released back into the wild πŸ™‚

AWWWW! Andi your such a sweet, kind hearted girl, you tried your best to take care of him even though like you said he had a very low chance, I am so sorry that happened. I can’t believe someone would do, kill the mother with a paintball gun that’s just cruel. I wish I could make you feel better but it’s too bad to see that happened. I hope things are alright.

So sorry to hear about Cadbury! It’s tough with critters from the wild. Last year, of all the crazy things, we ended up trying to nurse a bat puppy! Had to use an eyedropper and get up every two hours. Crazy stuff with the same ending. I’m surprised the cat put up with it. We tried have birds at the same time we had kitties and that was NOT a good mix! Meanwhile: ANIMAL LOVERS UNITE!

    [Reply]

    Andi replied:

Wow, sorry to hear that Bucky. Yeah, Mozart was definitely very curious, but he didn’t seem to mind having another animal around. (So I guess I was wrong when I said he hates other animals, I guess it might just be dogs & cats! :P)

  8. Aaron says:

Very sweet of you Andi, I have taken care of birds and such who been hurt and it is hard not to get attached. I took care of my dog Sidney 24/7 while he was very sick for nearly 2 months doing everything in the world to help him. But he died in my arms and was SOOOOO freaking sad..

Since it’s just a baby bunny it isn’t as bad since it hasn’t been a “wild animal” for long and should adapt to domestication much easier than an adult. Plus it’s either domesticating or death.. I think we know the best choice πŸ˜› haha.

BTW I got you a bunch of AWESOME stuff I will be sending you next week that I just know you’ll enjoy. I hope you’re a size small panties πŸ˜‰

Take care always and the bunny!

Andi–Sorry to hear about your bunny incident and your friend Karilyn. I, too, am an animal person and no matter how hard you try, it is sooo easy to get attached to animals you come in contact with. But, kudos to you for trying to take care of him and give him a chance.

I hope you have fun with the bartending job. I know it can be good time. I know all of us are just out here looking in, but if there is anything I or anyone else can do for you to get over the hump, no matter what, just ask. I know I would be more than happy to help any way I can. The waiting game is never any fun. Not knowing or basically having your hands tied makes it so much worse.

Just remember, I know I support you, and I am sure most everyone else does too. It will happen and I am behind you 110%, don’t ever forget that. I want to see you be successful. Your a good person and good things will happen for you. Have a good rest of the weekend and week coming up. Good news, I’m sure, will be coming your way soon. lol! busy times, uh?
it’s a nice thing you got a rabbit, too bad he passed away, don’t blame it on you, some criatures are not meant to grow close to humans, GOD made that plan like that, I can’t understand it, I won’t and I want not. it’s just like it is and that’s all.
I feel good to know about you, and parties should always be intenses and spontaneous, the rest matters few and none. in fact I’m a bit surprised to read there are thiefs of seeds there in canada, I’m used to see them in my area but I don’t imagine them existin’ nowhere else, mostle ’cause there has to be at least one right place in this world. let me tell you that a few nights ago I heared someone walking in my backyard, I called the police, the officer told me ‘right at this very moment there’s no-one who can attend your case, so you have to wait’ I said ok, hanged the phone, waited a couple minutes, called again and said ‘remember me? I just called ’cause there was a thief in my backyard, you just told me no-one could come, now there is no rush, I have a shotgut and I blowed away the head of the thief, all of his brain are spilled over my garden, take your time’ what do you think? in least than 3 minutes there were 7 patrols in front of my house and an helicopter and almost 20 vans of the press, the officer who answered the phone told me ‘I believed you said you had killed the thief’, I said ‘I believed you said there was no-one to attend my case.’
it’s a good thing you find a job and that you like it, I am too very satisfied of the fact that your site will be up real SOON, try not to get too impatient, if you have already waited 40 days, why not 41? or 42?
it is worthless to worry more than what is needed.

Wow, that’s terrible about Cadbury, and Cadbury’s mother…. I have ZERO tolerance for anyone who would dare to hurt a defenseless animal. (Or cats. Living with the two of them, I really don’t consider them defenseless, but I still wouldn’t tolerate anyone hurting them.) But you should feel good that you did all that you could do. That’s a huge commitment. And you should be proud that you’ve done your best.

That sucks totally about the stuff being stolen… on her birthday! Who does that? who steals anything on someone’s birthday.

I’m glad to hear the OTHER news that you’re bartending again. I look forward to the no doubt humorous blogs you’re going have.

Lots of not-so-nice news this week, but at least I’m glad to hear you’re bartending, since you do enjoy it and you can use the funds right about now. Hard on those tootsies, though; I hope you’re wearing your comfortable shoes! Take care of your pretty feet! πŸ™‚

You did what you could for Cadbury, your lil bunny. πŸ™ And for the record, I would say a distinction can be drawn between permanently caging animals in zoos versus raising or rehabilitating wild animals so they can be released back into the wild. What you did was good. And I’ve already discussed the cruelty of nature. At least you provided lil Cadbury with a comfortable and even loving last few days—nature would have afforded no such thing. But I wonder if Mozart was jealous? πŸ˜›

Glad you had fun at Karilyn’s. There’s nothing constructive I can say about the whole theft thing except I hope the perps are caught. What a nasty damper on an otherwise fun evening! But it does go to show how careful a person must be, unfortunately, about open-ended invitations and having strangers in one’s home.

Get some rest πŸ™‚ , and you know we’re just as impatient about the opening of your site. But we know it’s close! ❗

    Andi replied:

Thanks Dickie, yeah it feels really good to be making money again! 8)

Mozart was actually more curious than jealous, but I was trying to keep them separated because I didn’t want the bunny to either a) feel scared, or b) get comfortable with having a much bigger animal around (since the plan was to eventually release him, so he would’ve needed to stick to his instincts) But I think they would have become friends under different circumstances. Poor Cadbury, and shame on whoever thought it was fun to paintball the rabbits. Those things hurt even with protective clothing on for a human, and if they hit a sensitive area the pain is excruciating for days. For a little bunny it must have been horrific. You had to try to save Cadbury.

And thats a nightmare story about your friend. Everyone who attended should try and work out who the scum was, start a Facebook group among yourselves, listing who they saw, or pictures they took to put names to faces. That person or people have to be found and shamed.

Congrats on your return to bar work, by the end of the month it will be like you had never been away.

    [Reply]

    Andi replied:

Yeah, I’ve never been shot with a paintball gun before (although I do own one), but I hear it can really hurt at close range or in certain areas! πŸ™

Yeah, she’s been doing a bit of detective work, and managed to put names to faces, like you suggested. Still no real leads, though.

And thank you! It’s nice to be back at work, and the tips don’t hurt, either! πŸ˜‰

    [Reply]

    dickie replied:

I have a friend who went paintballing once. Took one shot to the tchotchkes and another to the earhole… perhaps you wonder why he only went once? lol

But all joking aside, shooting animals with a paintball gun is a shitty thing to do, and it’s shitty times shitty to shoot a momma with babies ❗ πŸ™ Cruelty to animals sometimes betrays a personality type that would be just as cruel to people if given the chance.

That being said, I don’t necessarily agree that misdemeanor charges are too light (a misdemeanor conviction is not akin to a ticket and a fine, which would *really* be a slap on the wrist). But I think a psychological evaluation would be a good idea, and a judge should impose enough jail time to make sure the criminal understands the crime is serious, plus some follow-up supervision. Crimes involving physical abuse or cruelty are not occasions for generous plea deals IMO, even for first-time offenders.

    [Reply]

    Kathy replied:

Why is though that just because it is an animal the punishment gets diluted. The local newspaper should run a story to try and name and shame the scumbag.

    [Reply]

    Andi replied:

I agree! Although they wouldn’t run the names even if they picked up the story, because they are under 18. It’s these little punk ass kids who live in the next building, they like to hang out at the bus stop wearing gang colours and shit.. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before they escalate from hurting animals to hurting people, which is all the more reason that animal cruelty punishments should be more severe.

    dickie replied:

Kathy: Not sure I understand your question… you seem to imply that crimes of cruelty against animals should be equated with crimes of cruelty against people? This would be a pretty radical departure from current law, whose overall purpose is to protect people, not so much animals. How far do we take that?

Interesting idea with the newspaper angle; public moral condemnation might be a stronger deterrent than any likely criminal penalty. But since these are kids, it’d probably be better to name and shame the parents who raised such little angels. You know as a parent yourself that no parent can prevent her child from doing wrong, but something has really gone awry when children are outside the bounds of right vs. wrong to this degree.

Andi: Maybe this forum is a bad place for me to actually take this subject seriously and offer a measured opinion. It would probably be best if I just agreed and said, idly, that people who are cruel to animals should punished more harshly. After all, the alternative suggests that I don’t care about animal cruelty! Of course, my response above shows that I *do* care about preventing animal cruelty, and I don’t think people should be getting just a slap on the wrist.

But a misdemeanor (up to one year in jail) is not enough? Do you mean misdemeanor punishments—up to one year in jail—are *never* enough, even for first offenders and/or the criminally negligent?

It’s good to get truly bad people “off the streets,” and harsh punishment feels just, but there is an alternative to just warehousing people (like we do too much of in the U.S.; I don’t know about Canada). Education, rehabilitation, and little social disapprobation can be an effective tool, especially in cruelty cases where the perps are just dumbasses (often kids) looking for a cheap thrill and not considering the suffering of the animal. Empathy can be taught/learned, at least to some degree. I would suggest that it’s only the true sociopaths—those who can’t be taught empathy—that need to be locked up for the safety of society. My two cents. Maybe we’ll just agree to disagree. πŸ˜›

    dickie replied:

Your neighbor was right to bring Cadbury to you, because you cared enough to do your very best, and that says a lot about how people think of you. I probably like animals a lot more than I do people, and after reading what some piece of shit did to Karilyn, it probably explains why.

There’s no better place to take your mind off things than a bar… hick πŸ™‚

What a sweetheart you are, for taking care of that rabbit and congrats on getting your new job. There is a waitress at this Irish Pub that I frequent and she could pass as your long lost twin sister. The first time I saw her, I had to do a double take, but since its in Ventura California, i’d guessed it wasn’t you πŸ™ I would ask her if I could take her pic, but I don’t want to look like weirdo and “burn” one of my favorite pubs.

    Andi replied:

Thanks! That’s funny, I almost took a serving job at an Irish Pub last year, lol.. but yeah, definitely wasn’t me! You should totally try to take a pic, but a sneaky one! (like get her in the background or something, I’m curious to see if she really does look like me, or if you’ve got beer goggles on! :P) Or maybe that’s not such a great idea after all… I wouldn’t want her to think you’re a “weirdo”! πŸ˜‰

Hey Andi! Sorry to hear about Cadbury. I think it would’ve been pretty cool to see someone be a mother to a hare even though the mother may be hairless (in certain places if you catch my drift lol). Speaking of which, I thought I might throw an idea your way unless you’ve already thought of it. I was curious if you had thought about making your videos on your upcoming new site available for mobile download so that us as fans of your work, and body of course πŸ˜‰ can take your sexiness wherever we go? Just an idea I thought I would shoot your way. Keep up the good work you gorgeous creature you and I look forward to the launch of your new site. I can’t wait!

Sorry to be late in posting Andi. I too have been nursing a sick animal but he’s my 17 year old cat who had to have major dental work done. He’s recovering nicely now. I’m so glad you’re a fellow animal lover. All the people I love are animal lovers and their warmth and kindness shows in all they do. Welcome to the club!!! So sorry your wee bunny died though and a pox on the cretins who shot his mum.
Good luck with the bar work. You meet some great {and some weird} people doing that.

DICKIE: Lol, I see your point, but I think it’s a little early in the day for a debate (I just woke up! :P), so I’ll just stick to answering your question. πŸ™‚

Yes, I do think that one year in jail would be strict enough, but that is rarely the case.. I don’t feel that animal cruelty is taken seriously enough from a legal standpoint, and maximum penalties don’t seem to be enforced very often for ANY misdemeanors. (although I guess it varies, depending on where you live.. and also whether public outcry demands it, as in the case of Cheyenne Cherry, for example, who thought it would be fun to lock a kitten in a 500 degree oven, and later showed no remorse)

I guess what pisses me off the most is that acts of cruelty towards wild and/or stray animals don’t seem to matter, because they don’t “belong” to anyone. That’s just how I feel.. we could debate this for hours, as I agree there are many different perspectives on the topic, and I see where you’re coming from. πŸ˜‰

    [Reply]

    dickie replied:

I asked questions to understand better, and I’m glad I did. πŸ™‚ In fact I think we are pretty close to agreement on this topic. Acts of animal cruelty should be taken seriously; that’s the bottom line. How the government goes about taking these crimes seriously might be the point where we diverge a bit, but we want the same result.

You were up late last night, huh? Me too, and I can’t explain it by saying I was working! Hope you had a nice shift at work.

  41. Kathy says:

The point I was making is that if those who thought it fun paintballing a bunny and her family to death were caught, the only punishment they would get is a telling off, being grounded for a week, loss of pocket money, something like that at the very most. It certainly wouldnt be considered serious enough to go to court, too much paperwork, too costly, well thats what would happen in my country. Swap it for a young mum walking her kids got attacked, one of them was seriously hurt, like being hit in the eye by some paint. Minimum punishment for that? Because we are ‘superior’ to animals there has to be a separate set of rules and morals? Not in my book.

Ive already drummed it into my daughter that you have to be gentle with animals, not to pull their tails, or grab them, that sort of thing. Shes been to zoos, farms and rescue centres and except for eating a worm once, she knows exactly how to behave with animals. Thats what you do as a parent.

Judge Judy would sort those shits out. I luv that woman πŸ™‚

You are clearly a good mum, Kathy, and when you teach your daughter good morals, you can be certain she will never show up before Judge Judy in the future. πŸ™‚
